Houston, TX. - A celebration of life was held recently for Gloria Jean Thacker Kellum. She was born May 11, 1952, the third child of eight to parents Eula and Omel Thacker. Gloria accepted Christ at an early age where she attended William Chapel AME, and later attending New Hope Baptist Church, Alto.
Gloria attended Booker T. Washington High School of Alto where she participated in several sports activities which included basketball and track. She graduated Booker T. Washington May 1970 and furthered her education at Prairie View A & M University. There she met her husband E. J. Kellum. They were married in 1973 and moved to Houston in 1974. They were the parents of three children. She joined Brookhollow Baptist Church where she served under Pastor Ralph Douglas West for more than thirty years. Gloria retired from Southwestern Bell. After her retirement there she worked at the United Postal service as a mail carrier until her health failed. She spent the rest of her years devoting time to helping raise her grandchildren and traveling.
On February 17, 2022, Gloria Jean leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 49 years, E. J. Kellum; daughters: Eryca Kellum (Raymond) Lenton, Houston, Texas, LaTawnya Kellum (Ezzard) Solomon, Spring, Texas, Dimitra Kellum (Delyne) Smith, Spring, Texas; grandchildren: A’Yonna, Dilyn and Dimi and great grandchildren Luke and Lillie, brothers: Henry Thacker, Howard Thacker, El (Terra) Thacker, Willie Thacker and Mike Thacker all of Alto; Nieces, nephews, cousins and her bonus family the Kellums.
